Q + A

Will Food/ Drinks be provided?

ONLY IF YOU RSVP 3+ MONTHS BEFOREHAND!!! The wedding reception will have buffet style food service and an open bar with limited drink selections. The catering service requires a head count 3 months in advance to prepare the needed amount of food.

When should I book my hotel?

July 4th, with its magnificent displays of fireworks over the Great Lakes and beautiful weather, is a very popular time in Northern Michigan. Most hotels fill up months in advance, and the best ones can fill up over a year in advance. It is essential to book sooner rather than later, but the process is a little different for each of the hotels (the Earl and the Weathervane) where we have reserved a block of rooms. If booking at the Earl, it is strongly recommended to book before July 3rd, 2024 to secure a room. After July 4th, the rooms we have reserved at the Earl will become available to the public and the spaces may fill quickly. If booking at the Weathervane or any other hotel, securing a room ON July 3rd 2024 is strongly recommended. Booking with most other hotels is also available to the public 12 months in advance, so those rooms will likely be gone should you delay.

Can I bring my screaming child?

Why would you want to? We definitely don't want you to.

Can I bring a plus 1?

Not last minute, be sure to get an answer from the Bride or Groom more than 4 months before the wedding if a plus one is not specifically indicated on your envelope.

Where should I fly into?

Pellston Regional Airport and Cherry Capital Airport are both approximately 50 minutes from the wedding venue. More airlines travel through the Cherry Capital Airport. The Pellston Regional Airport is only serviced by Delta Airlines. Grand Rapids and Saginaw are the next closest options since flights may be cheaper. But the drive is three hours to the venue.

Will transportation be provided?

A 14 person shuttle will be provided traveling to and from Hotel Earl and Castle Farms the day of the wedding. Both locations are in Charlevoix, Michigan.

Is driving in Michigan different than elsewhere?

The roads are very dark at night. Consider all of the highways to be busy deer crossings. Police speed traps are very likely during this time of the year.

Do I need to rent a car?

Yes. Taxi and uber won't be a reliable option in this location. So you will need a vehicle for transiting to or from the airport, hotel, and wedding venue.

Should I drive from Louisiana to Northern Michigan to attend?

It will be 35-40 hours (roundtrip) at highway speeds. The gas will be around the same price as a roundtrip flight for 1 person to fly and get a rental car (depending on your vehicle). So flying is usually the best option. Driving would be a good option IF you are carpooling, you want to make it a roadtrip, or if you want to stick around for more than just the wedding.

Other tips if coming from Louisiana?

Don't worry about ice or snow, the wedding is in July. Average daytime temperatures are in the mid 70's and average nighttime temperatures are in the upper 50's. The police will arrest you 100% of the time for drinking & driving. This includes to and from the wedding venue. This is not sarcasm, plan accordingly. Don't walk around in public drinking alcohol, you are not in New Orleans. Hunting/Fishing licenses are cheaper than the fines.
